USTR Publishes New Section 301 Notice for Maritime Sector

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) on April 17 published a notice in connection with the Section 301 investigation on China’s targeting of the maritime, logistics and shipbuilding sectors for dominance. The notice set forth finalized fees on (i) vessel owners and operators of China based on net tonnage per voyage; (ii) Chinese-built ships based on a net tonnage or per container basis; and (iii) foreign built car carrier vessels based on their capacity; in addition to proposing new tariffs on certain cargo handling equipment.

 

FMC Adds PRC-Based Chipolbrok to Controlled Carrier List

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) on April 17 designated the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company (Chipolbrok) as a controlled carrier of China. Accordingly, this entity is now subject to increased FMC regulatory oversight.
